Have you heard about Saint Anthony's Shawl KAL? The tradition started in 2017 when Filipa Carneiro released the Alfama Shawl, which was knit in a yarn of the same name by Rosários 4. Since then, the designer and the brand decided it'd be fun to organize a shawl KAL every year, starting on June 13th, the day of Saint Anthony of Lisbon. A popular saint in Portugal and Brazil, Saint Anthony’s Day is celebrated with traditional parties in both countries, especially in Lisbon, his hometown.
This year's design is called Manjerico, a triangular shawl with ruffles and a graphic tuck-stitch pattern. It’s knit sideways in three colors of Falésia, a sport-weight yarn by Rosários 4, a blend of cotton and bamboo.
The pattern is free and has versions in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. It’s available in 3 parts on Rosários 4's website — the first part on the 13th of June, the second on the 22nd, and the third on the 29th. The instructions are accompanied by video tutorials posted on Filipa Carneiro's YouTube channel. If you need more information, check out the Facebook group, where you can find all information and news related to the design.
If you're interested in joining the KAL, don't waste more time! The first part of the instructions is already available!
