MACRAMÉ-INSPIRED KNITS BY RACHEL ILLSLEY

Summer is in full swing! If the heat’s making you want to swap your thick sweater projects for some lighter, more summery knits, then these macramé inspired designs might be just for you.

The Macramé Collection by Rachel Illsley of Unwind Knitwear includes three designs that are sure to become some of your most-worn items this summer. Each pattern was inspired by the shapes and textures of macramé and they all feature stunning stitch patterns that are equally fun to knit as they are to wear. All three patterns in this collection include 9 sizes ranging from XS to 5XL.

Why Knot? is the first design in this collection. It’s a beautiful tee that’s worked top-down and in the round. The yoke features stunning lateral braids, yarn overs, dropped stitches, and seed stitch sections followed by some relaxing stockinette for the body, and is finished with a textured hem. The short sleeves are knit in stockinette with a textured cuff. The sample was knit using a fingering-weight 4ply merino yarn from Weku Yarn.

Knotty But Nice is a lightweight, dropped-shoulder cardigan. The stitch pattern includes dropped stitches and the knot stitch, which create an open fabric that’s perfect for summer. The body is knitted flat, top-down, and the sleeves are knit in the round. The pattern also gives instructions to knit optional i-cords, which create a wrap-around style cardigan. The sample was knit in a fingering-weight Merino-Nylon blend yarn from Fruitful Fusion.

Last but certainly not least is the Knot Again Tee. This v-neck tee is knit sideways, a different construction than the other top in this collection. It features sections of elongated herringbone stitch, and i-cords are added to the armholes and neckline for a polished edge. The sample was knit in a 4ply fingering-weight sock yarn from The Wool Shed.

Which of these designs are you most looking forward to casting on?

Happy summer and happy knitting, fiber family!
