IAQUE BY ROSÁRIOS 4: A LUXURIOUS ECO-FRIENDLY YARN

Updated: Aug 25, 2023

Novelaria received a bunch of different yarns last week, and Iaque by Rosários 4 caught our attention because it’s a light and super soft fiber. Also, Iaque is part of the Eco-friendly Collection, so it’s a GOTS-certified yarn.

Iaque is made of 89% organic wool and 11% yak. It suggests US 3 to 6 (3 to 4mm) knitting needles and comes in 50g (1.75oz) balls with 200m (218 yds). It is a sport-weight breathable yarn, so it’s the perfect choice for Brazil’s not-so-cold tropical winter. If you're looking for a pattern made with this exquisite yarn, we suggest Filipa Carneiro's stunning Diamantes Wrap.

Yak is not a common fiber, especially in Brazil. It comes from a long-haired bovine found throughout the Himalayan region, the Tibetan plateau, and some areas of Mongolia and Central Asia. The animals naturally lose their coats during Spring, so the nomads comb them or collect the fibers from the ground. The rough guard hairs are used for making ropes and brushes, while the fine down fibers are used for yarn.

Yak fiber is extremely thin and soft, similar to cashmere, so it became a more sustainable alternative due to yaks’ more gentle steps compared with goats, causing a much lower impact on the soil.

You can find Iaque by Rosários 4 in stunning colors at Novelaria stores.
