Who said knitting is only for the winter? We selected three summer tops to prove you otherwise and help you prepare for the summer.
These tops are ideal for high temperatures and offer endless outfit combinations. If you don’t feel like showing off too much skin, you can wear them with a jacket.
The most important thing a knitter must consider when choosing the size for a fitted top is ease. You need a piece with considerable negative ease, which means that the final measurement of the top must be smaller than your actual bust measurement.
Fiber content is another thing to take into consideration. Plant-based fibers, such as cotton and linen, feel great in the summer but don’t have as much elasticity as wool. That means that a top knitted with those fibers will certainly “grow” in length with time and possibly in circumference too. That is why all the patterns we selected are knit with merino wool.
And an essential tip: be careful not to stretch the fabric when blocking, or you may end up with a top 3x your size!
Svetlana Volkova’s Easy Halter Top is just as the name says. It is beginner-friendly and easy to wear. The top is worked from the bottom up with fingering merino yarn.
The pattern is available in 9 sizes, with a bust measurement range of 27.6 to 59.1" (70 to 150 cm).
Camisole No. 5 by My Favourite Things is a classic elegant top knit in light-fingering merino yarn. The rib stitch and the placement of the increases form beautiful lines that accentuate the body’s curves.
It’s worked from the top down, so you can try it on as you knit and decide how long you want to make it. Unfortunately, it’s not very size-inclusive, with only six sizes ranging from 29 to 40.5" (74 to 103 cm).
Jessie Maed’s latest release is sexy, just like all the patterns she designs. Totally Tank Top is knit from the top down and has a scoop neck with a rolled finish and cropped length.
The sample piece was knit in fingering-weight cotton and linen blend yarn. The pattern is available in nine sizes for chests measuring from 28 to 60” (71 to 152.5 cm).
