Smilga by Inese Sang is a symmetrical triangular shawl knit from the top down. It has small cables and intarsia crochet bobbles that add fun texture and pops of color to the piece. According to the designer, this pattern is suitable for intermediate-level knitters. It includes full written instructions and charts.
The shawl can be knit with two strands of lace-weight yarn held together or one strand of fingering-weight yarn. You can choose to make it with two or three colors. The contrast colors are only used for the bobbles. If you decide to knit it with fingering yarn and three colors, you will need 925 yds (875 m) for the main color, 55 yds (50 m) for contrast color 1, and 66 yds (60 m) for contrast color 2. Check out our yarn and suggestions below.
The sample shawl was worked with US 3 (3.25 mm) circular needles with 32” (80 cm) cable, but you should always knit a swatch to check your gauge. The pattern calls for 18 stitches and 32 rows in stockinette stitch in 4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm). You will also need a US B-1 (2.25 mm) crochet hook for the bobbles.
